Collegiate Water Polo Association Releases 2012 Women's National Collegiate Club Week 3/February 16 Poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The four-time defending National Collegiate Club Champion returns to the top of the standings as California Polytechnic State University moves up to No. 1 in the Week 3/February 16 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll.
Ranked No. 3 last week, the Mustangs reclaim the top position in the national rankings since rating first in the 2012 Preseason Poll. The 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 champion, Cal Poly earned all but one first place vote to tabulate 99 points, three more than the University of Michigan (96 points) which remains at No. 2.
Overall, the Top 10 experienced radical changes as the University of California-Davis (86 points), University of Oregon (84 points) and University of Florida (74 points) each move up one place to take over at No. 3-to-5, respectively. The University of Notre Dame (67 points) and University of California-Berkeley (67 points) tie at No. 6, with the University of California-Santa Barbara (61 points), Arizona State University (60 points) and previously unranked San Diego State University (51 points) rounding out the Top 10.
Pennsylvania State University (45 points) slides to No. 11, with Texas Division frontrunners the University of Texas (41 points) and Texas A&M University (41 points) tying at No. 12.
The University of California-San Diego (34 points), previously No. 1-ranked University of California-Los Angeles (31 points), University of California-Santa Cruz (27 points), University of Central Florida (20 points), University of Pennsylvania (19 points) and University of Illinois (12 points) rate at No. 14-19, with Dartmouth College (8 points) and the University of Washington (8 points) tying at No. 20.
The University of Southern California (6 points), University of Arizona (5 points), Indiana University (5 points), California State University-Chico (2 points) and University of Virginia (1 points) received votes as 26 programs appear in the Week 3 Poll.
