TUCSON, ARIZONA - Jon Haga (Sr., Palatine, IL) and Jared Swider (Jr., Rockford, MI) recorded hat-tricks and goalie Ben Shantz (Fr., Rockford, MI) made 15 saves to earn Player of the Game honors as the #1 nationally ranked Michigan State University Spartans defeated the University of Pennsylvania 13-6 in the second round of the 2007 National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of Arizona.

The Spartans advance to face the winner of a second round matchup between the University of Arizona and Florida International University at 8:40 p.m. this evening with a berth in the national title game on the line.

MSU, which never trailed, took the early advantage as Andrew Olesnavich (So., Beverly Hills, MI) finished a crossing pass from Dan Lebling (Sr., Naperville, IL) with 6:19 left in the first period. Penn tied the game with 4:36 left in the period when Alexander Valner (Fr., Los Angeles, CA) rebounded a missed shot and put it home to knot the contest at 1-1.

However, Michigan State dominated the remainder of the period as Haga scored from two-meters at 3:41 and nine seconds, while Swider finished a rebound off his own missed shot at 52 seconds for a 4-1 lead.

The lead expanded to 5-1 to open the second period when Haga converted on a direct shot with a laser into the left corner of the cage at the 6:10 mark. The Quakers sliced the margin to 5-2 prior to halftime when James Greene (Sr., Hillsborough, CA) back-handed in a direct shot with 3:05 left in the half.
